The Section was formed in 1988 to provide angling for members of the Tilehurst Royal British Legion and members of other British Legion Clubs. Some years later, it was agreed that non-members of the Royal British Legion could also join the Angling Section. Although the Section runs within the TRBL, it is self constituted and supporting, and managed by a committee who make everyday running decisions.
Since its formation, the Section has acquired two fisheries for its members - one on the River Thames (up stream of Mapledurham Lock) and Tapperns Lake in Theale.
The Section provides its members with matches throughout the year on rivers, canals and lakes where trophies are awarded culminating in an annual presentation of the trophies in May. We also hold some matches against other fishing clubs.
The section is also affiliated to Reading and District Angling Association.
Our Club match record for a 6 hour match on a lake stands at 350lb 7oz. The current record for a 5 hour river match stands at 54lb 8oz and the canal record stands at 16lb 9oz.
If you like a beer, a few of the members get together on a Thursday evening at the TRBL Club in Tilehurst for a bit of socialising and the inevitable talk about the one that got away!
We currently have 40+ members and new members are always welcome.
If you're interested in joining, then please see the "Membership" page.
